Glacier National Park snowplows working on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road have moved within two miles of Logan Pass and are clearing the road in an area known as “The Chutes,” just below the Rimrocks.

On the east side, snowplow crews are working beyond No Stump Point, below the East Side Tunnel and about 2.5 miles from Logan Pass.

There will be no hiker or biker restrictions on the Sun Road for both sides of the Continental Divide on Saturday and Sunday, but visitors should use caution. Last weekend, a very large slide hit the Sun Road near the Weeping Wall, and there are more than 70 avalanche chutes along the alpine section of the road.

Many of the Park’s secondary roads are now open, including the Many Glacier and Two Medicine roads. The Inside North Fork Road remains closed to Bowman and Kintla lakes but is open eight miles north of Polebridge to Doverspike Meadow.

The weather forecast for the weekend calls for a chance of rain both days. The National Weather Service says Glacier Park could see heavy rain by Tuesday and Wednesday, with more than inch of rain possible.
