REGAN: Whose side is he on?

I read the news of Reach America’s The Thaw video and was concerned to learn appointed school board trustee, Brent Regan, is more involved than he would like to acknowledge. I don’t criticize a man for his support and involvement with a religious group, even if it believes our local schools are full of sin and are “anti Christ.”

Reach America’s pastor, Gary Brown, is all over the internet and national media making the case to parents, encouraging them to withdraw students from public school. (A loss of public students would affect funding for our local schools.) Brent Regan acknowledges that he gave Reach America a “one time donation” to start this group and tries to say that’s the extent of his involvement. Yet, Regan has held field trips to his shop for these kids. He uses a field trip photo with the pastor and kids in his campaign material. Regan even taught a class on Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals in April at Reach America. His campaign manager is closely tied to Reach America. Why not mention those things as well?

This isn’t an issue about agreeing or disagreeing with Reach America. It is a question of why Brent Regan, who has had little involvement with the public school system and supports a group like Reach America, would want to be in charge of local public education? I believe this is a legitimate question to ask. I support Christa Hazel. Her motives to serve are transparent.
