POLSON — Heidi Rausch homered twice to center field, Martina Marquardt went 5 for 5 and blasted a grand slam to right center in the third inning and Shalaina Duford (21-1) held Whitefish to two singles as Polson wrapped up regular-season play with a 32-1 Northwestern A softball victory on Saturday.

Rausch’s home runs were both two-run shots in the first and second innings.

Rausch also doubled.

Duford also had a big day at the plate, going 5 for 6. Duford and Jessica Bagnell had the other doubles for Polson (21-1, 8-0).

Up next for the Pirates is the Class A state tournament, which starts Thursday in Belgrade. Polson will carry an 18-game winning streak into that three-day event.

NOTE: Polson head softball coach Larry Smith reached another milestone earlier this month when he picked up his 500th career coaching win. That came on May 2 in Frenchtown. Polson won that contest 11-6. Smith’s career coaching record now stands at 510-179. This is his 26th season.
