Caitlin McHugh went 2-2 in girls singles for Coeur d'Alene at the state 5A tennis tournament which wrapped up Saturday in Boise.

Rafa Hewett-Steiger won the boys singles title for Lewiston, which claimed the boys team title. Boise won the girls team title.

Two Sandpoint doubles teams each won a match in consolation on the second day of the 4A state tennis tournament at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.

Seniors Alex Hon and Micah Buckmiller took down Twin Falls 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the consolation quarters, before being eliminated by top seed Nampa 7-5, 6-0 to end the tournament with a 3-2 record in the boys doubles draw.

"Alex and Micah won in straight sets over Columbia, who had defeated the Peck brothers of Lakeland in the main draw earlier," said Bulldogs head coach Kent Anderson, who praised the play of his team in their loss to the No. 1 seeds from Nampa. "I think this was the hardest hitting match I've ever seen in doubles at state, 4A or 5A. The crowd was going crazy."

Senior Megan Rockwell and junior Kennedy Search also went 3-2 in the girls doubles bracket, dispatching Skyview 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation quarters before falling to the other Skyview team 6-1, 6-2 in the semis.

"They played tough in the semis but just couldn't get the mojo working well enough to win today," said Anderson. "If they played them again I would bet they could beat them. Unfortunately, there's no tomorrow. Megan is graduating and she'll be missed."

In the 3A tournament, Clark Fork's girls doubles team of senior Heather Wold and junior Lyndsie Kiebert lost 6-1, 6-0 on Saturday in the semis of the 3A state tennis tournament at Vallivue High School on Saturday morning.

The pair dropped down into the consolation semis, where they fell to Weiser 2-6, 6-4, 3-6 to end their run.

"They were right in it," Clark Fork head coach Jeff Emmer said. "Heather played the best tennis of her career in her last high school event."
