ROYAL CITY - Mayor Mike Stark has resigned, effective May 31, and one council member, Kent Andersen, has submitted a letter of interest.

No other letters have been received, according to City Clerk Kelly Collins. The next meeting of the council will be today at 7 p.m.

Stark resigned because he and his wife Barbara are moving to Tri-Cities to live closer to a daughter. They plan to live in one of the apartments she owns.

Stark is already gone, for all practical purposes. He and Barbara left May 14 for a two-week trip to Montana.

Stark was mayor twice. This second time around lasted 18 months.

"It was great," he said. "Being retired, I was able to do the job. I really enjoyed it."
