COEUR d'ALENE - Suspicious looking objects in the parking lot of the Coeur d'Alene fire department had to be rendered safe Tuesday by a bomb squad.

At 8:15 a.m. Coeur d'Alene police responded to a report of suspicious looking objects at 406 N. Fourth St.

Sgt. Christie Wood of the Coeur d'Alene police said the objects were intended to be explosive.

Due to the nature of the objects, the Spokane bomb squad responded, as did a Kootenai County hazmat team.

Officers recovered two bottles that had substances in them.

Wood said the bottles will be sent to the state crime lab for further testing.

The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department also responded and both agencies remained at the scene for hours.

Police shut down a portion of Fourth Street at Foster and Garden avenues.

Officers didn't evacuate the surrounding area due to the objects not posing a direct threat to passersby, Wood said.
