Freshman Emily Getts will be the lone Columbia Falls High School player at the state Class A tennis tournament in Polson and Ronan this week.

Getts advanced to the finals of the Northwest A tournament in Kalispell last week, losing to Whitney Zimmerman, of Polson, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. She beat Ryan Chauncer of Whitefish in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-1, to advance to the finals.

“I’m really proud of Emily qualifying for Class A State Tennis in her first try as a freshman,” said coach Jerry Smalley.

No one else from the girls or boys teams made it into the semis or final rounds at the May 16-17 tournament, which was hosted by Columbia Falls at Flathead Valley Community College and The Summit in Kalispell. The girls singles matches were played indoors at The Summit.

Getts will play Brandy Lambourne, of Havre, when state tournament play starts Thursday.
