PARADISE/ST. REGIS - Over 300 runners took to a track trail in St. Regis, running almost 11 miles to Paradise through rolling hills on a weaving trail.
In its third year, the 11 Miles to Paradise trail run offered runners with amazing views and a nice getaway as they trekked through the forest and on down to the river.
Race Director Mike Foote said the event was successful with almost 40 more runners participating this year.
“We had a great day. It was great weather, a good event and everyone was positive,” said Foote.
The run had a delayed start for the two groups who participated and took the runners through Lolo National Forest, starting out on a double track trail and later filing the runners onto a single-track trail, which paralleled the Clark Fork River.
The runners started in St. Regis and ended at the Ferry Landing Fishing Access near the 14-mile bridge.
After the day’s long run and the runner’s valiant efforts, they were rewarded with a BBQ and three-hour soak at Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort as well as an awards ceremony.
“Everyone got into the hot springs and relaxed,” said Foote.
The hungry and tired runners were able to choose from a cheeseburger, pulled pork sandwich, curried chicken sandwich, a vegetarian burger or pre-made vegetarian wrap or sandwich.
Massages were handed out from Sapphire PT who set up two treatment tables for post-race massages and consolations on injury prevention.
Hammer Nutrition Products helped keep the runners energized, handing out nutritional products at the Halfway Aid Station.
Runners also received a t-shirt for their participation. Proceeds went to benefit the Hellgate Cross Country team in Missoula.
Foote thanked the Forest Service for opening up their land for the run.
Registration for next year’s race opens in February 2014.
