PLAINS-Plains High School celebrated the artistic talents of students early last week, displaying works of art in a variety of mediums in the hall outside the gym. Paintings, sculptures, ink and pencil drawings adorned the walls during the three-day exhibit.

Artists and art teacher Kristin Cole were on hand for the exhibit opening on Tuesday as a handful of attendees roamed the hall taking in the various mediums and the wide array of styles.

Color and composition, tone and shade, graceful brushstrokes and sometimes stark reality were all demonstrated in two and three dimensional pieces around the hall. While some students’ work bordered on such notable styles as American realism, pop art, expressionism and surrealism, others leaned more toward traditional scenic painting and neo-romanticism.

Demonstrating the extent of talent at Plains High School, over 40 students displayed their work including students new to the practice as well as accomplished, advanced students.

Cole said the exhibit was met with positive reviews from members of the public.

“People couldn’t believe the talent we have here. It went really well,” said Cole.

Advanced art student Mali Jirasko’s acrylic painting entitled “1369 and 6580” was chosen by students as their favorite piece. The exhibit is no longer available for public viewing.
