Alpine Theatre Project has announced its 2013 summer season, a “grand overview of Broadway’s Best” as well as Broadway master classes, over the course of four weeks in July and August at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center.

The professional theater company is using the offerings as a launching pad for its previously announced “ATP 2.0” upgrade.

“The ATP 2.0 upgrade is based heavily on offering more to the community,” artistic director Betsi Morrison said. “So we’re starting by offering a season unique to this year only that offers more Broadway talent and truly unique educational opportunities this summer.”

Each show will highlight a different genre of Broadway musical, performed by actors who have extensive experience on Broadway in that particular genre: from the classics to the contemporary; from Broadway dance to Disney’s Broadway hits. There will be something for the whole family this season.

In addition, the Broadway artists will conduct master classes for interested students.

The season is as follows:

‘Defying Gravity - Broadway’s Next Generation’

July 12-13

This show celebrates the next generation of Broadway shows since 1968. It will encompass the classic rock shows of the 1960s and ’70s, such as “Hair,” “Godspell” and “Jesus Christ Superstar,” as well as the mega-musicals of the ’80s and ’90s, such as “Cats” and “Phantom of the Opera.” It will also include contemporary hits such as “Wicked,” “Mamma Mia!” and “RENT.”

‘Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo - Broadway’s Family Fare’

July 19-20

This show will highlight favorite Broadway shows that are more family friendly. It will include selections from Disney Broadway hits such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Mary Poppins” and more.

‘5, 6, 7, 8! - Broadway’s Style & Rhythm’

July 26-27

This show is a celebration of Broadway dance. As long as there has been Broadway, there has been dancing, and Alpine Theatre Project is bringing some of Broadway’s hottest dancers to share the moves, the styles and the rhythms that have defined the American musical. It will feature the choreography of legends such as Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins and Gower Champion, and shows such as “Cabaret,” “Chicago,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Crazy for You,” “42nd Street” and more.

‘Some Enchanted Evening - Broadway’s Golden Age’

Aug. 2-3

This show is a celebration of the musicals from Broadway’s Golden Age, including such shows as “Oklahoma!” “South Pacific,” “Camelot,” “My Fair Lady,” “West Side Story,” “The Music Man,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and more. This concert will celebrate Broadway’s most enduring, classic shows.

Broadway master classes for local students and adults will be held in conjunction with each concert. These classes will be taught by the guest artists.

Each class session will be limited to 10 students and will encompass vocal technique, lyric interpretation, genre history, Broadway dance, technical theater, production design and audition techniques.

Class schedules and slated teachers will be announced shortly.

Patrons may order a four-show season subscription and receive 20 percent off the single ticket price or choose a  three-show Flex Pass and receive 10 percent off the single ticket price.

Tickets are now available by visiting atpwhitefish.org or calling 862-SHOW (7469).
