SANDPOINT — Attention local golfers: Get ready to tee it up for a great cause.

Sandpoint Lodge No. 1376 of the Benevolent Protective order of Elks invites all golfers to enter the first ever Elks Youth Golf  Fundraising Tournament on Saturday, June 1 at the Elks golf course.

For the second year in a row, Sandpoint Elks have been awarded a special Impact Grant by the Elks National Foundation to provide an amazing, free Youth Golf Program to the young people in our community. These grants are based upon a project or program that is new, directly affects children, continues the Elk traditions of Charity and community service, and most importantly, has a positive long term impact on the community it serves.

The Youth Golf Program provides free golf clubs, bags, balls, tees, hats and lessons to young beginning golfers. The program also provides advanced lessons and playing time for just $25 to kids who have played golf before.

These grants are specifically designed to kick-start worthy programs and the Sandpoint lodge was one of only 43 nationwide to receive an Impact Grant. In order to be a long-term annual program, without taking away from their other numerous community projects, the Elks must have fundraisers to provide future financing.

That is where the youth golf tournament and the local golfers come in. It will be a four person scramble, with a shotgun start from the gold tees. No handicaps will be used.

There will be a BBQ lunch and lots of prizes, including: Closest to the pin for men and women; longest putt for men, women and youth; and a hole-in-one. All teams will win a prize. For more fun, you can buy “Mulligans” and raffle tickets.

Entry fees are $50 for adults and $20 for youths 18 years and younger, with all proceeds going to the program. Hole sponsors are $50 for new sponsors and $40 for previous sponsors if Elks has their sign.

Please join the fun, play some golf and help support a really great program for our local kids.
