Weland, Whittaker win

Nichele Whittaker and Mike Weland are the new Boundary County School District Board Trustees.

They join trustees Melanie Staples, David Brinkman and Beverly Krichbaum.

Nichele Whittaker swept Zone 5 with 89 votes. Incumbent Lisa Dirks received 23 votes and Kim Peterson received 18 votes.

In Zone 1, Mike Weland garnered 48 votes to overcome long-time incumbent Gil Hagen, who received 31 votes. Elizabeth Sloot received 29 votes.

Tuesday’s election had a very poor turnout with only 10.8 percent of voters turning out.

Two hundred thirty-eight out of 2,200 voters in Zones 1 and 5 voted.

Election results are unofficial until the canvas is complete.
