A fishy situation in the elevator shaft

A smelly situation was reported to the Kalispell Police Department by a Fourth Avenue East landlord who suspected a recently evicted tenant after he discovered someone had dumped a bunch of fish down the elevator shaft, creating a horrible smell in the hallway.

A bicyclist with a bruised ego reported a motorist struck him a glancing blow, and when he chased the motorist down and yelled, the driver came back and chased him, forcing him off the road. A responding officer reported there was no damage to the bicycle or the rider.

A girl reported walking down the road with a bloody face was found to have been hit by another girl at Woodland Skate Park. She was released to her mother.

A thief with a serious nicotine problem stole a basket of cigarettes from a North Meridian Road convenience store.

A woman with a parenting plan and a cat’s curiosity asked what kind of trouble she would get into if she violated the plan.

A man was reported stepping into traffic on South Main Street.


The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office was brought into a dispute between a pair of teenage boys when a 14-year-old ended up in the emergency room after a fight with a 15-year-old over a bicycle. It was reported that the boy possibly had a fractured neck, but Sheriff Chuck Curry said the boy’s injuries were undetermined.

A sneaky student at an East Evergreen Drive elementary school made a prank 911 call from the school, reporting a bank robbery, and then hanging up.

A Somers woman reported her daughter stole her cellphone after being kicked out of school for drug possession.

A dedicated thief stole a vacuum cleaner and garden tools from the mother-in-law quarters above a Soaring Pines Trail garage by prying open the doggie door.

An employee at a U.S. 2 East business reported someone dropped a bag of what he believed was methamphetamine inside the store.

A Haskill Basin Road man in Whitefish found a bunch of ammunition lying in the road, possibly from a delivery truck, and called to see what he should do with it.

A musing medical marijuana user in Whitefish called to ask if he could possess a firearm or get a concealed weapon permit if he had an active marijuana card.

A Gray Lane woman reported a dog had come onto her porch, frothing at the mouth, and attacked her dog. A responding officer determined the woman’s dog had suffered no injuries but was unable to locate the other dog.

A Bigfork man was found deceased of natural causes in his vehicle in Ritzville, Wash.


A former employee of a Central Avenue restaurant was advised by a Whitefish Police officer that if he ever returned he would be arrested. This was after the enraged ex-worker entered the restaurant, yelling at employees and customers.

A man with a bloody nose and no shirt was reported trying to start fights in front of a Central Avenue business.

An Iowa Avenue woman reported her ex threatened to break into her place and trash it. Her request for an extra patrol was canceled after she found a helpful friend who agreed to stay at her home for the night.


A frantic search for a missing 5-year-old boy that involved the Columbia Falls Police Department came to a happy end after the boy was found in his mother’s bed. The family had already checked the house multiple times and the car outside.
