TOPPENISH - The South Central A Conference district track meet at Toppenish last Friday turned out to be a tough proposition for Royal Register area prep athletes.
The top three athletes in each event qualified for the state meet at Cheney this week. Two boys and one girl from Royal made it, and one boy from Wahluke made it.
The closest bid for a district title came from Laddie Goroski of Royal in the 300 hurdles. Tanner Casper of Connell nipped him at the finish 41.3 seconds to 41.38.
Also coming close was Arturo Salazar of Wahluke. His effort of 38-3.5 came in second to the 38-11.75 of Alex Broyles of LaSalle.
Zillah won the boys meet with 124 points. Royal took ninth with 41, and Wahluke finished 11th with 17.
Zillah won the girls meet with 148 points. Royal finished 12th with 18, and Wahluke took 13th with 13.
