Blaming the Republicans won't work any more

Once again I was a bit chagrined by the insolent letter to the editor on May 17 by hard-core Democrat Jerry Reckin.
He begins with his critique of the local Lincoln-Reagan dinner and the content and commentary by some of the guest speakers.
Mr. Reckin, in standard Democratic verbiage, claims he found the “same old attack and hatred that cost them (the GOP) seats in the last election.” I was in attendance at the dinner, and whoever the mole was at the dinner that reported back to Mr. Reckin had to be running on progressive fumes of frustration. There were no attacks nor words of hatred expressed that evening. The individual making the report must have gotten his or her notes mixed up and used the ones from the last Democratic feast on loathing.
The reason the Republicans lost in the last elections, statewide and national, is because they didn’t work hard enough. We didn’t get the word out. We allowed the Democrats to own the varied media outlets, both print and television. We failed in investigating the obvious fraud that once again, was so prevalent.
We are aware of where we fell short and aware of why we need voter ID… and we will do our best to correct them in the future. We have to. The future of our country depends on it. The freedoms we grew up with are at stake. And the people siding with the political agenda of Mr. Reckin and his determined efforts to make the country a pure nanny state will probably stay committed to higher taxes, higher medical costs, more governmental intervention in our lives, more control of our failing schools, the degradation of our basic First Amendment and Second Amendment rights, the loss of our individual rights and our country’s position as world leader.
No thanks, Jerry Reckin. We can do better than that.
As to your accusation that Mr. Zinke and “his friends” conveniently forgot about the, in your words, “greatest deception, cover-ups and secrecy” that allegedly came about during the Bush administration is pure hogwash. I say to you, “for shame, sir.”
First of all, you conveniently forget the lessons of history and continue to debase those who served our country by accusing them of heinous acts not proven, only alleged by the progressive media. You claimed “prisoners were tortured.” Really? Only if you believe water boarding those who would destroy us, all three of them, deserved something different.
You mentioned the “total lack of evidence” regarding weapons of mass destruction. You and your propagandists never cease to amaze me.
President Bill Clinton gave notice to President Bush about the “weapons of mass destruction.” President Bush retained President Clinton’s appointed CIA chief, George Tenet, because he was the one who advised Clinton and was supposedly on top of the issue. Sens. John Kerry and Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy were all convinced of the presence of dirty weapons. Each of them voted to go to war in Iraq. How convenient for all dissenters to forget the tragedy of 9/11. We were attacked and people died. Remember?
Iraqi Gen. Georges Sada testified to the existence of WMD’s and where they were moved to, but the media once again failed in their duty to watch out for the American people. Yet it makes for good political fodder to feed the beast of obfuscation and misleading claims against the opposing GOP.
Mr. Reckin, you can blame whatever or whomever you wish for the ills permeating in our country, but the American people are finally waking up and seeing for themselves. The free stuff can only be handed out as long as there are hard-working folk who feed the pot in order to pay for the free stuff. But I do believe indifference is ending.
And finally, I agree with Mr. Zinke and Congressman Daines that the Republicans in the House are the last firewall between America’s greatness and the Obama agenda.
Look around, Mr. Reckin. You can not convince me you are OK with the IRS encroaching even further into our lives and that they are going to be the arbiters of our health care; that four Americans dying in Benghazi can be swept under the rug and forgotten along with the unconscionable… silence.
Are you not perplexed by the promise of the president to the families of the fallen that he would personally lead the charge to find and punish the murderers? And then… nothing. It’s only been 8 months since the country failed in their duty to each of those who waited for help to arrive. As you know, it never came.
At what point do you as an American get angry at the incompetence of some in our government’s leadership? Or is it anything goes as long as it was at the behest of Democratic leadership? And you have the audacity to complain about Zinke and Daines. Yikes!

We need to keep talking - and listening - to each other
After reading through the Daily Inter Lake on Sunday afternoon, I determined I should at least respond to a couple of the letters to the editor. The subject matter is of importance since both letters basically attacked the idea of Dinesh D’Souza speaking at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts on March 10.

OPINION: 'Once upon a time...' (It's not a fairy tale; it's American history)
Once upon a time... we relished the thought of honesty. We cherished the stories of our first president speaking the truth when it came to chopping down a cherry tree. Now it seems one who may run for the office of president of the United States can lie and for some it doesn’t matter.
