LaSalle speed limit to be reviewed

The Flathead County Commissioners have sent a letter to the Montana Department of Transportation asking that the speed limit on U.S. 2 between Rose Crossing and Highway 40 be immediately raised to 65 mph.
The commissioners said they had reviewed a speed study for that section of highway and found that 85 percent of drivers were already driving 65 mph there. The state also recommends the speed limit be raised to 65 mph, based on the same study.
Prior to 2010, the speed limit on U.S. 2 from north of Evergreen to Highway 40 was 70 mph. The speed limit was changed in 2010 to 55 mph from north of Evergreen to the Glacier Park International Airport entrance and 60 mph from the airport to Highway 40.
The Montana Transportation Commission will vote on the recommendation at its May 30 meeting.
