Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 8 months AGO
Beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and uncle James Christopher Weisel passed away suddenly from natural causes, due to an enlarged heart, on May 15, 2013, in Sacramento, Calif.
James was born to Charles and Welcolm Weisel on Nov. 26, 1971, in Paso Robles, Calif. He moved with his family to Coeur d’Alene in 1974. James attended Dalton Elementary, Canfield Junior High and Coeur d’Alene High School, graduating in 1990. After his first year at North Idaho College he was accepted into the Norbertine Fathers community of St. Michael’s Abbey and spent a novitiate year in southern California. He returned home to Idaho to finish his studies, received two Associates degrees from North Idaho College and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a focus on Native American Culture.
Always the teacher, he found training students as a fundraising consultant with universities to be his career of choice. He was employed for the last seven years as Director of Fundraising/Annual Giving at the University of California, Davis, in Sacramento.
He was an active, involved member of St. Pius X Church and taught catechism at St. Thomas Church. In August of this year he was to have entered Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon to answer God’s call to be an ordained priest for the Diocese of Boise.
James is survived by his parents, Charles and Welcolm Weisel of Coeur d’Alene. He is also survived by his sister, Mary and her husband Dennis Laughlin of San Jose, Calif.; his brother, John and his wife April Weisel of Hayden; his sister, Cathy Weisel of Coeur d’Alene and his sister, Julie and her husband Monte Meredith of Coeur d’Alene. James will also be missed by his many nephews and niece: Parker, Spencer, Varick, Braden, Nathan and Laura; and godsons, Holden, Merrick and Kale Manno; along with other cherished family members. James’ nephew Austin passed away in 2011.
A vigil and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at St. Pius X Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at St. Pius X Church. Private family burial will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in James’ name to the St. Pius X Capital Campaign Foundation or the St. Thomas Religious Education Program.
James will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him, but never forgotten.
