Lakers fall to Mavs in AA baseball title contest

MISSOULA — The Missoula Mavericks defeated Kalispell’s Lakers 7-0 on Monday in the Class AA championship game at the Missoula Memorial Day American Legion baseball tournament at Lindborg-Cregg Field.
Missoula led 3-0 after three innings and scored four times in the sixth to ice it.
Pitchers Tres Cunningham and Nathan Jewett combined on a three-hitter for the Mavericks.
Chris Combs, Adam Frandsen and Lukas Leigh all had singles for the Lakers.
Missoula and Kalispell also played a Sunday night tournament game with Missoula rolling to a 12-3 victory. The Mavs scored seven runs off six Lakers’ errors in that one.
Kalispell (11-9) beat the Helena Senators in Monday’s other tournament outing, 3-2.
NOTE: Kalispell Lakers coach Ryan Malmin picked up his 500th career coaching victory at the tournament on Saturday with a 9-1 victory over Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
