MISSOULA, Mont. - The Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen class AA American Legion baseball team broke into the win column Sunday, splitting a pair of games at the Dale Dahlgren Memorial Day Tournament.

Coeur d'Alene defeated the Bozeman Bucks 5-4 after losing to the Helena Senators 7-6 in nine innings earlier in the day, both at Lindborg-Cregg Field.

"We're playing a lot better," said Lums coach Lloyd Duman, whose squad dropped its season opener to Kalispell on Saturday. "We're figuring out what we need to do, and we're making our list (of things to improve on)."

Coeur d'Alene (1-2) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Bozeman. Devin Kluss hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning to pull the Lums within 3-2. After the Bucks scored in the bottom of the fifth, Shawn Montee's two-run single in the top of the sixth tied it at 4. In the seventh, Michael Hicks' singled in Kluss with the go-ahead run.

Carter Chaffin earned the win with five innings of one-run, two-hit relief.

In the opener, Coeur d'Alene took a 6-4 lead in the top of the ninth on an RBI triple by Kluss and an RBI single by Hicks.

But the Senators tied it on a bases-loaded walk, followed by a passed ball, and won it on a throwing error.

Coeur d'Alene plays the Missoula Mavericks today at 12:30 p.m. PDT, needing a win and some help from the other teams to reach the title game immediately following.
