ARLEE — A 72-year-old Arlee woman is dead after a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 93 north of Arlee at about 2:45 p.m. last Friday.

Carol Sue Mapston’s southbound Cadillac sedan drifted into the other lane and struck a northbound semitrailer head on, Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Randy Owens said. Mapston, who was wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle because of extensive damage. The third vehicle, a Hyundai SUV, sustained minor damage from debris at the scene. The 48-year-old Utah man driving the truck was transported to a Missoula hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remained under investigation Tuesday, and an autopsy is being performed to determine if medical issues contributed to the crash. North and south lanes were closed for two hours after the crash.
