Emily Getts lost her two tennis matches at the state Class A tournament in Ronan on May 23, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

Getts opened the tournament with a three-set loss to Brandy Lambourne of Havre, 6-7(7-2), 6-2, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, she fell to Erica Huppert of Hamilton, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

“For a freshman to play two three-set matches in her first state tournament was quite an accomplishment, considering the fact she balanced driver’s ed and tennis most of the season,” coach Jerry Smalley said. “Emily has a bright future as a Wildkat tennis player.”

Getts is a freshman and was the best tennis player on the team this season.
