GREAT FALLS – The dust from the season has settled, and the Mission-Arlee-Charlo Bulldogs have emerged from the B-C state tournament as the fourth-best team in Montana.
The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a tough-luck 4-3 loss to Glasgow. The Bulldogs stranded the potential winning run in their last at-bat, after getting their first two batters on base to open the seventh. After that, Glasgow pitcher Shyla Bergtoll sent down the next three batters to escape with the victory.
Though relegated to the losers bracket, the Bulldogs mustered a gritty response with their backs to the ropes. On Friday, the lineup came alive to help power the squad to a 9-7 win over Huntley Project, before exacting revenge from last weekend’s devastating loss by bludgeoning Powell County 13-10, earning a berth in the fourth-place game.
Playing their third game of the day, the Bulldogs ran out of steam against Stillwater, suffering a narrow season-ending setback, 7-6.
Head coach Susan Weaselhead’s team is set to lose five players to graduation.
