Ronnie M. Quintana, 27, Spokane, was driving a 1993 GMC Suburban eastbound on Highway 5 near milepost 6 at 5:18 a.m.
While maneuvering a curve in the roadway, Quintana lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and collided with the embankment on the north shoulder, police said.
The vehicle then flipped multiple times before stopping on its top, blocking the westbound travel lane.
Quintana was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Kootenai Medical Center by air ambulance. Quintana was in fair condition on Thursday afternoon.

The hospital referred a message seeking an update on the conditions of those two to the Benewah County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office didn't return a call before deadline Thursday night.
All five occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seat belts.
The road was blocked for five hours.
An investigation continues.
