POLSON — Isaiah Nasewytewa, the 10-year-old St. Ignatius boy who had been detained on $500,000 bail earlier this month, was released into his grandmother’s care last Thursday, after a ruling by Lake County District Court Judge Kim Christopher.

Public defender Steve Eschenbacher and the state agreed to a two-week continuance to determine “the best way to proceed with the case.” The matter is now set to resurface in court on June 6.

As conditions of his release, Nasewytewa will be under a strict 9 p.m. curfew and has also been mandated to attend a May 29 medical appointment in Polson for a medicinal evaluation.

Christopher stressed the importance of abiding by those terms to Dorinda Buck, Nasewytewa’s grandmother and legal guardian.

“He’s going to lose if the people in charge of him don’t start paying attention,” Christopher warned.

Christopher also made it clear to Nasewytewa that he needs to be on his best behavior over this two-week period.

“I need you to be where your grandmother needs you to be,” Christopher told the youth. “You need to stay out of trouble for your own sake.”

Nasewytewa had most recently been staying in a residential treatment center while waiting for the completion of his court-ordered neuropsychological evaluation by a doctor in Bozeman.
