PRESS: In league with 'moneyed elite'

This letter to the editor was addressed to Mike Patrick:

For many years, you have been speaking to the North Idaho Pachyderm Club on the Friday after Election Day, giving your thoughts and analysis as to why the results of that election turned out the way they did. I believe you enjoyed doing that, and our club members appreciated your analysis, regardless of the way each election turned out. Mike, it is with regret that I will not ask you to do that on Nov. 8. Your coverage of the current campaign for the Coeur d’Alene city elections has been so lopsided in favor of the Widmyer slate, it is really reprehensible and disgusting. I believe we both know the reasons The Press has cast its lot in a very obvious attempt to promote candidates who will, as the current administration has, do the bidding of the downtown moneyed elite who pull the strings.

If you were to speak to us, I believe your analysis, regardless of the election results, would be as biased and slanted as has been your one-sided written coverage of the campaign.

The thing I find so sad is that you personally know, through your past professional relationship with Mary Souza, that she is an honest and honorable person who only wants an open and fair local government which considers and protects the interests of all the citizens of all of Coeur d’Alene, not just those of the privileged downtown elite few.

I’m sorry that your editorial and “news” positions have, at least in my eyes, caused me to lose respect for you and your paper.

BOB BROOKE

President, North Idaho Pachyderm Club
