SOUZA: Equal access for all
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 5 months AGO
This city election is as important as any in recent memory. The new mayor and City Council will take on the task of “tuning” the tone and setting the direction of City Hall. Depending on whom we the voters choose, that direction and tone could be decidedly the same or decidedly different. It is time for a clear change, a change in style, a change in philosophy of government, and a change toward more inclusion of grass roots community values. So I am endorsing Mary Souza.
Mary is the candidate who represents the best chance for a shift toward a more effective decision making style. Her style would be more inclusive not only in terms of who has access to the process, but also in terms of the range of values that would be the foundation for decisions. Some major City Council choices were lacking in this balance of values; and the result was a painful community upheaval. Mary’s style would be one that plans clearly for a positive future. But she also appreciates, and would include the wisdom of, Coeur d’Alene’s long-standing valuing of local neighborhood communities and equal access for all.
Mary is the one candidate for mayor who has a concrete plan and experience in both business and city planning to help it happen. Her plan will support responsible growth, living wage jobs, city transparency and a safe, healthy environment. She is the one who has been an active observer and participant in city government for many years. She is the one who has a history of standing by those whose voices have garnered little notice. She will honor the covenant between voters and their government. Her ideas will serve us better for the long term. Please vote for Mary Souza for mayor.
