Climate controversy: Is global warming settled science or political dogma?

The United Nations International Panel on Climate Change 2013 report is finally out. The 2007 report sparked the “settled science” mantra that Obama used as recently as June 25 to proclaim, “We don’t have time for a meeting of the flat earth society.”

Have you noticed that everything Obama wants has to be done immediately or we face armageddon? The new report as well as a consensus report from the National Academy of Sciences have upped the ante by proclaiming human-caused global warming “unequivocal.”

As a global warming denier (and, I suppose, a proud member of his “flat earth society”), I am looking forward to how the president and his “round earth” scientists plan to use their worthless computer models to explain two “inconvenient truths” about the actual climate behavior over the last 15 years.

“Inconvenient truth” number one is that the planet isn’t warming.  There seems to be something else going on (can you say normal cyclical climate changes) other than the relatively small contribution of man-made global warming, a contribution that no global warming denier denies, that has resulted in NO CHANGE IN GLOBAL TEMPERATURE OF OUR PLANET SINCE 1998!

Yes, you are reading an accurate statement. There has been no change in average temperature for 15 years! I’ve been saying that for six years (since the last IPCC report) much to the derision of the global warming believers who contribute to these pages.

“Inconvenient truth” number two concerns the ice at the poles.  Remember the panic about the total melt-out of arctic ice (North Pole) by this past summer and the rapid melting of the ice sheet in Antarctica? Unfortunately for the believers and their phony computer models, both poles have experienced record expansion of ice this year and the predicted sea level rises have failed to accelerate as predicted. OOPS!

If that wasn’t bad enough, 2013 showed near record lows for hurricane activity and record lows for tornados. But liberal believers need to ignore these facts, and most of the news media (who are in the bag for the liberals) devote hours of coverage to every gust of wind as an example of their fabricated increase in the number of storms, which, of course, they ascribe to global warming. Gotta fill those hours of air time with something. After all, how many reality TV shows can the believer scientists watch while waiting for the actual temperature data to finally ..  finally ... show some correlation with their model?

As I have previously written, Earth’s atmosphere and climate is extremely complex. Computer models of this system will likely never be spot on. In fact, over the past 15 years, computer simulations predicted a temperature increase four times the level that actually occurred (0.21 vs. .05 degrees Centigrade, the actual a virtual flat line). Carbon dioxide, which the global-warming believers claim is the main cause of the increase in earth’s temperature for a couple of decades at the end of the last century, comprises 391 parts per million (.0391 percent) of our atmosphere.

Think of this as if you worked at a factory with 3,000 workers all doing the same task, such as sewing ladies’ dresses, and each person contributed one dress an hour to overall production. Even if you as an individual (.033 percent of the work force) doubled your output to two dresses an hour, the factory would only go from 3,000 to 3,001 dresses an hour ... not very impressive. The social engineers want to cripple our economy, kill high paying jobs and make us dependent on foreign, hostile energy sources only to accomplish a feel-good political agenda.

These so-called climate scientists receive tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars in grants to produce their computer models and proclaim as “settled science” their predictions that can’t accurately handle a decade much less a century of data and which their political sponsors then use to push a far-left environmental agenda. Truth be known, the deniers, such as myself and Managing Editor Frank Miele, aren’t fabricators in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry. No, it is the climate scientists and their politician sponsors who are trying to destroy the greatness of this country. Some of them, such as Al Gore, are making themselves wealthy in the process. Open your eyes, citizens, and see the believers for the manipulators that they are.

Shut down coal, shut down fracking with oil and clean natural gas production, stop pipelines, cut well-paying jobs in the industry, demand that everyone drive a shoebox that gets 40 miles to the gallon and in which you can be buried after it crumples to half its size in a crash, put a 20 percent efficient solar panel on your house and sit in the dark when it’s cloudy for a week while you wait for 30 years to recoup the cost of its installation, erect hundreds if not thousands of windmills and then force the dams of the Northwest to spill rather than produce clean hydroelectric power because the government forces Bonneville to buy wind first at a much higher price... are we foolish enough to let these folks destroy the greatness of our country?

I fear, without a change in leadership, that our best days are behind us. For the sake of my children and grandchildren, I sincerely hope I am wrong.

Inter Lake too tough on Zinke?

I am not for wasteful government spending, but does the Daily Inter Lake need to parrot the Associated Press’s repeated assaults on Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke’s air transportation spending ... and putting this garbage on the front page? After the liberal media got rid of HHS secretary Tom Price for using excessive charter flights, I’m sure they figure this is a way to get rid of most of the president’s Cabinet, not that any Democrats ever abused this privilege!

Was Obama team working to undermine Trump transition?

WOW! Can this piece-of-work we call the Congress and the drive-by media be any more pathetically one sided? Can their emphasis on character assassination and process overshadow the truth any more than they have obfuscated the truth thus far?

Creative problem-solving needed in Glacier Park

So Glacier National Park is considering a “one car in, one car out” policy at venues on dead-end roads such as Bowman Lake due to overcrowded parking causing a “safety issue.” I wonder how often emergency vehicles have had a problem getting to where they were needed at the lake. Not to mention that it seems to me a helicopter would be more useful in providing timely intervention and not be affected by overcrowded parking. My guess is that there are fewer than 50 parking spaces (excluding the campground itself) for the whole site, including people parking for multi-day backcountry hiking.
