MATTAWA - Wahluke High School will have its annual Veterans Day Assembly, one of the best in a public school setting, on Friday, Nov. 8.

The actual national Veterans Day holiday will be on Monday, Nov. 11.

The assembly is organized by U.S. Navy and Iraq War veteran Jay Scott, who worked in the Wahluke School System and now works at New Horizons High School in Pasco.

Scott has organized two Veterans Day assemblies this year. The first will be held at New Horizons on Nov. 7. The second will be held at Wahluke High School on Friday, Nov. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the gym.

The assembly is being coordinated with Specialist First Class Jason R. Schrader of the Army National Guard in Pasco. In addition to the color guard and speeches, Schrader will bring in soldiers who spend time talking with students. He may include military equipment such as Humvees.

The military participants will be fed in the Wahluke High cafeteria after the ceremony.

"This will give students an opportunity to ask questions," Scott said.
