Winco opening Thursday

"Location, location, location" often is the key to success for a business. And the location of the new WinCo store as the first commercial place at the south end of Ramsey Road is key as Ramsey leads to many of the area's new neighborhoods.
WinCo opens here at 7 a.m. Thursday. The 77,000-square-foot store (compares to 115,000 of the Coeur d'Alene CostCo) is described as a full-service grocery store featuring a deli, bakery and bulk foods.
It will be open 24 hours daily with about 200 employees. Manager is Joel Clark. Starting in 1967 in Boise (its headquarters), WinCo (for "winning company") has 88 employee-owned stores in seven western states. Check www.wincofoods.com.
The Enaville Resort (Snakepit) is open
The historical Enaville Resort (Snakepit) is now open for all three meals and beverages. Built in the 1880s, the unique place was recently purchased by Kim and Joannie Gittel from the family of the late Joe and Rose Mary Peak, who owned it since 1978.
The Gittels describe the menu as "home-style family" with steaks, chicken, buffalo burgers, a soup and salad bar, their signature chicken-fried steak and prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays.
With a Silver Valley historical decor, the Snakepit seats about 100 customers around a huge fireplace and at the bar. With 12 employees, it's open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
The Gittels also own Rusty's in Hayden, El Patio at Stateline, Bo Jack's in Coeur d'Alene and The Bedroom Goldmine in Murray.
Get to the Snakepit by taking I-90's Kingston exit up the north fork of the Coeur d'Alene River about a mile.
EnVision Cafe opens in Hayden
A fireplace area and special decor also are featured along with the coffee and food at the EnVision Cafe by Coffee Northwest on Orchard Avenue (just west of Government Way between Rusty's and Holiday Inn Express) in Hayden.
Owners Barry and Joyce Robb offer a variety of sandwiches, salads (cranberry almond, apple walnut, chef's and Asian), soups, wraps, paninis, many baked items (with bagels, cinnamon rolls and scones), smoothies, shakes and fresh-roasted high-grade coffees (by the pound also). They have free Wifi and deliver in the Hayden area.
Originally from Phoenix, San Antonio and Cambridge, Idaho, the Robbs came to North Idaho in 2001 (to be near and raise family) from Oklahoma where they had three coffee kiosks and cafes.
With seating for about 45, EnVision has private areas for small meetings. It can be rented for private events. Hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. Phone 762-9431.
Now for the Tidbits:
- Watch next week for news on Grandma Zulu's Kitchen (moving from Post Falls to Hayden's former Yellow House), Saltwater Emporium, Haute Mess (women's boutique) and EJ's Dollar Store.
- Silver Lake Masonry Supply closed on Government Way and is moving its inventory to its Las Vegas store.
- New York Bagels has closed in Ironwood Square.
- Coeur d'Alene's downtown height ordinance is 220 feet (about 20 stories). This is bothersome as having just been in New Orleans where the huge buildings keep the downtown almost completely in the shade despite gorgeous weather. Hope that doesn't happen here.
- A style note: A fantastic, huge place to see in New Orleans is the World War II Museum. However, the writers of the huge screen script needed an editor. They misused "affect/effect." "farther/further," and added "s" to the "...ward" words and an apostrophe to the decades ("the war was in the 40's"). Drove me crazy.
