RATHDRUM - A little accordion music set the mood for the Polish Fall Festival, which took place in the St. Stanislaus parish hall for nearly five hours Sunday.

More than 100 people came through the day to mingle, win raffle prizes and enjoy traditional Polish wedding food, including fried chicken, mashed potatoes, Polish sausage, pierogies and a whole table of desserts.

The rooms in the lower level of the parish hall were full of games and activities, including a cake walk, bingo and a photo room where people could wear hats and hold props for goofy pictures.

Parishioner Yvonne Rodriguez snapped the fun photos with a smile on her face.

"It's going wonderful," she said. "It's really nice to see all the families come together to support our church, St. Stanislaus. The kids are having a fun time taking pictures, acting silly. It's even more fun when you see the parents doing the same thing, when they're so reserved and don't want to act a little crazy for a picture, but after they take the picture, they have memories for a lifetime."

The event was hosted by the St. Stanislaus Ladies Altar Society and the Knights of Columbus to raise money for various projects through the year.

Jeanni Kaminski, president of the Ladies Altar Society, worked Saturday and arrived early Sunday morning to make sure everything was in order.

"This is our best in about three or four years, at least," she said. "It has been busier than it usually is by now."

Carla Carnegie played her accordion "Goldie" as families lunched and visited on the main level. She said she didn't really know any Polish songs, but she did know some German and Finnish.

"It's universal in a lot of cultures," she said.

This is the first year the annual festival had a Polish theme, which was chosen in honor of the young Saint Stanislaus Kostka, a well-known Polish saint.
