The 32-year-old Whitefish man shot and killed by northern California law enforcement last month reportedly had multiple run-ins with police during the week leading up to the fatal shooting.

According to reports from the Mount Shasta News, the Mount Shasta Police Department in California responded to three calls regarding Steven Henning’s behavior.

On Oct. 23, Amtrak officials asked police to remove an “unruly and abusive” passenger.

Henning was removed from the train and no arrest was made.

The next day a bar called police about a suspicious man who was described as acting strangely. Henning was removed from the establishment.

Later that same day, a call from a drug store reported a man “acting out of control and very threatening,” according to reports. Henning was again removed and no charges were filed.

Henning was fatally shot by a police officer and deputy in Weed, Calif., on the evening of Oct. 24 after a “violent struggle” in which he allegedly attacked a police officer, tried to steal a patrol vehicle and attempted to injure a police dog.

The case is under investigation by the Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office, Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department and Weed Police Department.

Both officers involved in the shooting are reportedly on paid administrative leave.

Henning’s family says the use of deadly force was unjustified and that Henning suffered from mental illness.
