A Coram man has pleaded not guilty to a pair of felonies after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, then fled the home with his young daughter.

Nathan Sherman, 23, entered the pleas Oct. 24 in Flathead District Court to charges of criminal endangerment and partner or family member assault resulting in bodily injury.

A court document claims the victim contacted the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 2 to say she and Sherman had been drinking and got into an altercation. Sherman allegedly pinned her against a wall and punched her repeatedly.

He also allegedly head-butted her in the face when she told him she was going to call for help.

The document alleges Sherman then left, taking his 5-year-old daughter.

Officers found the victim had a cut on the left side of her lip. They also spoke with another woman who witnessed the alleged attack.

Sherman was subsequently arrested at a gas station restroom; his daughter was found in the car. He allegedly told officers he had been drinking and had driven from Kalispell to Coram with his daughter in the car.

He allegedly failed two breath-alcohol tests.

The court document says Sherman has two prior convictions for partner or family member assault. He is currently incarcerated in the county jail, where his bond is set at $40,000. His next hearing is set for Feb. 12, 2014.
