YAKIMA - The idea of a team controlling its own "destiny" has never been more applicable to Moses Lake.

After losing two straight weeks, the Chiefs must beat Eastmont at home Friday in their season finale to make the post season.

"They know what they're capable of doing," head coach Todd Griffith said. "They know what kind of threat they can be. We just have to get it done."

Moses Lake's latest loss came at the hands of Davis, 23-17, dropping the team's overall record to 6-3 and 5-3 in the Columbia Basin Big 9.

The Chiefs' offense has sputtered for the last two weeks totalling only 27 points against Wenatchee and Davis.

"We played some pretty good defenses for sure," Griffith said. "Wenatchee had a good defense and Davis had a blitzing defense that they were bringing seven or eight guys every down. It was a tough game."

Junior quarterback Easton Castro led the Chiefs offense with 25 rushing yards, 169 passing yards and two total touchdowns.

Junior running back Nathan Ball added 46 rushing yards and senior running back Jordan Lacelle tallied 53 yards on the ground. Junior kicker Rehn Reiley added a field goal.

"Our kids played hard I just think we've been on the bad end of some bad games." Griffith said.

Looking forward to Friday, Moses Lake fell behind early in their first meeting against Eastmont, 21-7, but rallied to win 49-42. Griffith hopes that Lions Field, a place the Chiefs have only lost once all year, will help prevent a similar slow start.

"I think we've played pretty well at home," Griffith said. "I think our kids will respond well at home."

Friday's regular season finale will be the last home game for the Moses Lake seniors, but Griffith and the rest of the team hope it isn't the final game they play together.

"I've been telling this for quite some time, but this is their last hurrah," Griffith said. "They'll never play Moses Lake Chiefs football again and they don't know when that's going to be now and it's up to them to make sure it's not this Friday."
