Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 11 years, 2 months AGO
Rudolph E. “Rudy” Fry, 90, peacefully passed away Nov. 2, 2013, at the Montana Veterans Home.
Rudy was born Nov. 28, 1922, the son of James Robert “Bob” and Emma Fry.
Rudy led a special life; serving his country during World War II in the Navy, he married Ida upon his return from the war Sept. 29, 1945. Two daughters, Kathleen and Christine, were born of that union who held him as their “hero,” while living in Everett, Wash., working for Baker House Moving and also serving 20 years in the Army Reserve as a master sergeant.
Retiring with honors, he and Ida moved to Moses Lake, Wash. They spent many happy hours, days, and weeks hunting, fishing and traveling as “snow birds.”
Ida passed away April 8, 1994, of cancer. Rudy moved back to his home state of Montana to be close to his mother Emma and sister Edna. Rudy met a very special lady, Arlene Barry, who became his bride Nov. 1, 1997, in Kalispell. Arlene passed away Jan. 9, 2011.
Rudy was proud member of Earl Falkner Post No. 6 of the American Legion, Everett, where he also had served as commander.
Rudy is survived by his sister, Edna Morton, of Kalispell; his daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and John Boken or Marysville, Wash., and Christine and Joseph Smalling of Brainerd, Minn.; and a very special stepdaughter and husband, Diane and Harry Smith, of Kalispell. He was greatly loved by his eight grandchildren, Rude Lynn Wlazlak, Daniel James Fry, Darren M. Witt, Samuel Lange, Schlaine Benway, Brandon Smith, Bonnie Smith and Benjamin Smith; his nine great-grandchildren; his five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Rudy was preceded in death by his first wife Ida (Berg) Fry in 1994, and second wife Arlene (Barry) Fry.
He will be truly missed.
Family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls, or any veterans organization helping all our Armed Forces heroes.
Rudy will be laid to rest with his father James Robert Fry at Ronan Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in the spring at the Army Reserve Center in Marysville, Wash.
