Thursday's the big day as Cabela's opens new store

A ribbon cut by an arrow shot from a bow will herald the opening of the Kalispell Cabela’s Outpost store on Thursday.

Doors open at 11 a.m. Thursday to kick off a four-day grand opening that includes celebrity appearances, giveaways and family events.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 10:45 a.m. featuring speakers such as Cabela’s Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner and Kalispell Mayor Tammi Fisher.

Cabela’s also will offer giveaways throughout the weekend. 

The first 500 customers through the doors Thursday will receive Cabela’s gift cards worth between $5 and $250. 

The first 50 on Friday will receive a Cabela’s utility bag. On Saturday, the first 50 will receive a Cabela’s cap. And Sunday, the first 50 will receive Cabela’s gift cards valued between $5 and $100. 

Additionally, customers 18 and older will have chances to enter a drawing to win a $1,000 Cabela’s shopping spree.

Special appearances will include:

— CJ Buck, chief executive officer of Buck Knives, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.

— Jim and Donna Teeny, Cabela’s Ambassadors, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

— Gary Moses, former Glacier National Park ranger, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

— Jim Brennan, Cabela’s Ambassador, noon to 5 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

— Rich Lewis and Tom Oar of the “Mountain Men” television series, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

— Mike Jenkins, Cabela’s Ambassador, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Cabela’s customers will also be able to meet search-and-rescue crew members from Two Bear Air helicopter and talk about staying safe in the outdoors on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.  

A variety of family activities will be offered from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, including Dutch oven cooking demonstrations, Glacier Gun Dog Club demonstrations, a BB gun range, appearances by the Siberian huskies from Dog Sled Adventures, a primitive tool display, children’s archery shoot, “be bear aware” displays and more.

The Kalispell store is located at 275 Treeline Road along U.S. 93.
