Painter Lavonne Burgard heads up this month’s Crits & Croissants artists forum at the Hockaday Museum of Art.

The session takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Kalispell museum.

Crits & Croissants gives those who create art a chance to have their work reviewed by professionals. Artists 15 years of age and older may bring one or more pieces of their recently created artwork for critique while enjoying coffee and croissants.

Burgard studied printmaking at Drake University and lately has shifted her focus on developing entire paintings with a brayer, a hand roller used in printmaking techniques to spread ink).

Burgard says she enjoys the freedom of expression and the element of surprise when she paints without a brush.

"It is my hope that my finished work will give the viewer the same sense of wonder and incredulity as seeing sunrises and sunsets in real time," she says.

The cost to attend Crits & Croissants is $5 for museum members or $7 for nonmembers.

The Hockaday is located at 302 Second Ave. E. For more information, visit www.hockadaymuseum.org or call 755-5268.
