SPOKANE - With one match remaining in the regular season, Big Bend Community College is on the outside of the playoffs looking in.

The Vikings lost to Spokane in three games (22-25, 9-25, 17-25) Wednesday and now fall to fifth place in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges East region with a record of 5-8.

Columbia Basin jumped Big Bend and now holds the fourth and final playoff spot in the region. The Hawks have two matches remaining against Spokane and Yakima Valley.

The Vikings close their regular season on the road against Wenatchee Valley Friday and must win for any chance at a playoff berth.

Big Bend's offense struggled against Spokane, who is one of the top team's in the region, totalling only 19 kills. Freshman middle blocker and freshman outside hitter Shania Bateman led Big Bend with five kills each.

Sophomore setter McKall Miller recorded a double-double with 14 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Reeder and freshman defensive specialist Rebecca Egan also added 10 digs each.

Spokane's Dana Norris led all players with 18 kills.
