COEUR d'ALENE - Official voter turnout in Tuesday's Kootenai County election hit 24.02 percent.

While there are 68,391 total registered voters in the county, only 54,120 of them were eligible to vote in Tuesday's election, Kootenai County Clerk Cliff Hayes said in a press release Wednesday.

Those who were eligible to vote Tuesday reside in cities or the fire districts having an election.

Of the 54,120 who were eligible, 13,001 cast ballots.

On Tuesday night, the county incorrectly reported that the registered voters total was 46,675.

Because of that error, The Press incorrectly reported on Wednesday that voter turnout reached 27.85 percent.

The cast ballots number did not change from Tuesday night to Wednesday.

"The turnout percentages changed, but results stayed the same," Hayes said.

All the unofficial by-precinct election results have been posted to the county's website.

The election results remain unofficial until they are canvassed by the county commissioners on Nov. 15.

The public is invited to attend that meeting, at 9 a.m., in the county administrative building, located at 451 Government Way in Coeur d'Alene.

The clerk's office also said Wednesday the new ballot scanner and tabulation machine worked "flawlessly" on election night.
