Ronan, Charlo head to divisional tourneys

Two area volleyball teams are headed on the road to play in divisional volleyball tournaments this coming weekend.
Charlo enters the Western C divisional as the top seed out of District 10-C, winning both the regular season and last weekend’s tournament.
The Vikings (17-4, 11-1 District 10-C) draw a talented Harrison team in the tournament’s first round at 1 p.m. today.
Coach Sheryl Kain hopes her senior-laden team is prepared for some big tests.
“Our division is really tough,” Kain said. Our division has won state four of the last five years, I believe.”
Coach Adrienna DeCock’s Ronan Maidens will travel back to Florence—where they placed fourth at the District 6-B tournament last week—to make their first divisional appearance in the careers of any of the current players.
Ronan opens the tournament with Bigfork at 10 a.m. today. The Maidens dropped a contest to the Valkyries in their first game of the season.
“Anything can happen come tournament time,” DeCock said. “We should have beaten them earlier this season.”
Despite finishing just 8-10 (2-6 District 6-B) this season, DeCock has set lofty goals for the team.
“I’m not settling for anything less than a third-place trophy,” the first-year coach said. “Going to state [finishing first or second] would just be icing on the cake.”
