FLORENCE — Bigfork topped Thompson Falls 3-1 in a loser-out match before falling 3-0 to Missoula Loyola to finish fourth at the Western B divisional volleyball tournament Friday.

Bigfork needed a win against Loyola to stay in contention for one of the West’s two state tournament berths.

Bigfork lost both of its regular season matches against 7B foe Thompson Falls before getting the better of the Blue Hawks in the postseason with wins in the district tournament and at the divisional tournament.

The Valkyries lost the opening set 20-25 before storming back to win the next three 25-13, 25-18 and 30-28. Marissa Hiza led Bigfork with 14 kills and Tessa Robertson tallied six blocks. Thompson Falls had a 43-35 advantage in kills and was led by Shasta Wilson, who had 15.

Loyola topped Bigfork 25-23, 26-24, 25-21 in the Valkyries’ final match of the season. Loyola edged Bigfork 36-34 in kills and 4-2 in blocks. Each team had seven aces and Bigfork finished with a 48-20 advantage in digs.

Abby Amidon led the Valkyries with 10 kills, Lana Berg had both of Bigfork’s blocks and Kalia Wicklund served four aces. Sierra Tiede led Loyola with 14 kills.

Loyola will play Deer Lodge today in the loser-out semifinal of the double-elimination tournament at 10 a.m. Florence swept Deer Lodge in the unbeaten semifinal to clinch a state tournament berth. The winner between Deer Lodge and Loyola will play Florence for the Western B divisional title at noon.
