Victor Daniel “Vic” Pearson, 44-year resident of Boise, Idaho, passed away Sept. 23, 2013, at the age of 89.

He was known as “Dan” in his younger years, and to his nieces and nephews. Per his request, his remains have been cremated and no public service will be held. His immediate family bid him a last farewell on Sept. 24, with plans to scatter his ashes at some of his favorite fishing holes in Montana and Idaho.

He was born May 27, 1924, in Barber, Mont., to Ernst Erick Pearson and Johanna Amelia Swanson Pearson. When he was a youngster, his family moved to the Jocko Valley near Arlee. He declined a football scholarship to the University of Montana to study pre-med at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. His higher education was interrupted when he received his draft notice. He served in the Army Air Corps as a cryptographer and later attended the Judge Advocate General's course at the University of Virginia. He eventually received his Juris Doctor from the University of Montana.

His post-military professional life began in Missoula, where he soon joined the Farmers Insurance Group as an adjuster. Promotions led him to move his family to Helena, then Kalispell, and finally to Boise, where he retired after more than 30 years with the company. He spent many years as a respected member of the Board of Arbitration, where he was known for his thoughtful and well-reasoned facilitation of negotiations.

In Boise he met Ruth M. McCoy and they were married in January of 1974. They enjoyed traveling, but in recent years, they spent their time at home, reading voraciously, enjoying their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and providing love and support for each other.

A music lover and fine baritone singer, his voice was in demand while in the Army, and he often entertained family with his accordion, piano, organ, guitar and harmonica. He also entertained his children and grandchildren with ingenious homemade toys and puppets.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edna Marie Olsen Pearson; infant son, Eric William; brothers, William and Robert; and sisters, June, Mary and Virginia.

He will be forever loved by his surviving family, his wife of 39 years, Ruth M. McCoy Pearson; sister, Donna Jones; daughters, Janis Pearson Lance and husband Gordy of Grangeville, Idaho, and Judith Pearson Seyfert and husband Steve of Eagle, Idaho; his three stepchildren, 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and 10 nieces and nephews and their children.
