Wanted kidnapping suspect Douglas J. Standish has been arrested.

Coeur d’Alene Police Department detectives and members of the North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force found Standish at 12:09 p.m. on the F dock of The Coeur d’Alene Resort marina.

Detectives were on the dock and noticed that the cover on a 34-foot boat was open. As they were approaching the boat, the owner stepped out and said, "He's right here." Standish walked out behind the owner and was taken into custody without incident.

Law enforcement officers have been searching for Standish since Monday, when he is suspected of kidnapping his former girlfriend at gunpoint and holding her against her will for several hours.

The boat owner told detectives he discovered Standish was on his boat earlier today when he arrived at the marina to do some maintenance on the boat. He asked Standish to put his gun down and surrender and Standish complied.

Standish was wet and cold from having been in the water the night before. He told detectives that on Saturday night he jumped in the water to avoid being seen by Coeur d'Alene Resort security guards doing their rounds. He said he swam to the other side of the dock until after the guards left, and then he got back into the boat.

Detectives continue to interview Standish about his whereabouts since Monday, but some preliminary information indicates that on Saturday he was at the Resort Aviation pilot lounge, at the Coeur d'Alene Airport, and was using their computers to send emails. Standish is familiar with aircraft and airports and went undetected by other pilots while in the lounge.

The CDAPD reports Standish has been charged with kidnapping his former girlfriend.

Standish indicated to detectives he was upset over their breakup.

The investigation is continuing and no further information is available at this time.
