Stillwater Christian School will welcome a noted neurosurgeon for its annual fundraising banquet on March 13, 2014.

“For Such A Time As This, an Evening with Dr. Ben Carson” will be at the Flathead County Fairgrounds Trade Center. 

The event will consist of a private reception with Carson, followed by a banquet at the Trade Center with Carson as the keynote speaker.

“We are excited to be able to offer the community an opportunity to interact with a living legend such as Dr. Ben Carson, whose values and achievements align so closely with our school’s mission,” Stillwater Superintendent Daniel Makowski said in a news release.

Known for his groundbreaking work in pediatric neurosurgery, Carson has received hundreds of honors and awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for his medical achievements.

Carson is the author of five books, founder of the Carson Scholars Fund and a sought-after speaker on the topics of achievement and greatness of the American spirit. Carson has been thrust into the national spotlight for his outspoken position on conservative values and questionable government policies.

Stillwater Development Director Craig Hunnicutt said options for participating in the event include tables of eight starting at $800 ($100 per seat) and sponsorship tables from $2,500 to $10,000. 

Sponsor tables will include tickets to a small, private reception with Carson prior to the banquet as well as autographed copies of his book, “America the Beautiful, Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great,” priority table placement and recognition at the event. 

A limited number of seats at the head table with Carson also are available.

Stillwater Christian School students will participate in the eighth annual National Ben Carson Reading Day on Nov. 18 by kicking off their Ben Carson Reading Club campaign. 

The club is modeled after the challenge Carson received from his mother when he was a young boy. Carson’s mother limited him and his brother to two TV programs per week and mandated that they read two books each week and give her written summaries of what they had read.

Carson attributes much of his success in school and life to his mother’s emphasis on reading and the love of learning it instilled in him. Stillwater students who are able to complete the reading challenge will be recognized at the March event.
