Mansion offers holiday events

The Conrad Mansion Museum has many opportunities from Thanksgiving through Christmas to catch the spirit of the holiday season.
The mansion is fully decorated for Christmas complete with a two-story high tree in the grand hall. During a visit over the holiday season, guests will learn about the Conrad’s Christmas traditions, including the beloved Christmas pudding.
Hundred-year-old quilts, as well as a new historical clothing exhibit, “Christmas Caroling in Capes, Cloaks and Capelets” are on display. The exhibit was created by Teresa Knutson and includes historical pieces that were worn throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s for Christmas caroling.
The restored, almost-life-size Nativity will be on display in the gazebo at the mansion throughout the holiday season events.
Local artist Miriam Emerson spent months restoring each of the eight pieces of the Nativity. It was originally created then donated in the early 1980s by Rosalie Heineke, Lois Himsl and Gerene Little. The full Nativity scene was recently unveiled at the final and 30th annual Christmas at the Mansion.
Christmas tours begin the day after Thanksgiving and run through Dec. 28. The tours are held every Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and reservations are suggested to ensure space availability. Prices are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $6 for students and $4 for children.
Another holiday tradition at the Conrad Mansion is the Holiday Tea and Tour. At 1 p.m. Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14, enjoy a traditional tea in the dining room after a Christmas tour of the mansion. Cost is $25 per person, and reservations are required. Private traditional teas can also be arranged.
Children’s Christmas takes place Dec. 12. Children meet Santa in the great hall and have the chance to share their wish list while having a professional photo taken by Karen Weyer Photography. They will also receive a small gift and tour the mansion with their family.
Twenty-minute time slots are available between 4 and 7 p.m. Reservations are required. Cost is $10 for each keepsake photo with Santa. Tour price is $5 for adults.
The Conrad Mansion is located on Woodland Avenue between Third and Fourth streets east, Kalispell. Charles E. Conrad built the Victorian home designed by Spokane architect, Kirtland Cutter, in 1895.
