COEUR d'ALENE - After meeting with contractors Wednesday morning, the city has released a new schedule for the opening of Front Avenue this month.
"We had a construction meeting this morning and we will be opening Front on Nov. 22," said Dennis Grant, engineering project manager, adding some sections will remain closed to complete some infrastructure projects.
The first section of Front will open to the public between Seventh Street and Sixth Street on Nov. 19, according to a schedule City Engineer Gordon Dobler sent out to city leadership on Wednesday.
The construction trailers will be moved to the lower parking area at that time, Dobler said.
"Front, from Second to Fourth and the intersection of Second and Sherman will be open by the end of next week," he said. "The boat launch will remain open except for a short period of time when the remaining paving is placed."
The section of Front Avenue between Fourth and Sixth will remain temporarily closed for a few more weeks to allow contractors to finish sidewalks, landscaping, elevators, stairs, and the promenade on the south side of the street.
Traffic will also be allowed on Fourth Street by Nov. 22, Dobler said, adding that Fifth Street is already opened to traffic.
"Finally, the western portion of the parking garage is scheduled to be opened before Thanksgiving, with the remainder opened by early spring," he said. "We have spoken to the business owners and they are looking forward to the opening."
