Cd'A Summer Theatre announces 2014 season

Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre will present fully-staged productions of "My Fair Lady" and "The Addams Family" and staged readings of "Around the World in 80 Days" (July 16) and "The Odd Couple" (Aug. 13).

All performances this season will be at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene, 1765 W. Golf Course Road.

Long hailed as "the perfect musical," Lerner and Loewe's masterpiece "My Fair Lady" will be the centerpiece of Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre's 2014 season. "Audiences will fall in love with the cockney Eliza Doolittle as Henry Higgins painstakingly coaches her toward gentility - while learning something of his own humility in the process," states the summer theater's announcement of this year's lineup of shows. "My Fair Lady" will run from July 10-27.

The next fully-staged production will be the recent Broadway hit "The Addams Family." Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre will be the first professional regional theater to produce this new musical.

"With a toe-tapping score from Andrew Lippa ('You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown,' 'The Wild Party'), and the familiar cast of unforgettable characters, 'The Addams Family' will make you laugh, laugh and laugh - and maybe learn a bit about what it means to be a family," says the announcement. "The Addams Family" will run from Aug. 7-24.

Rounding out the season of musicals, Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre will present one-night-only staged readings of Neil Simon's immortal "The Odd Couple" and Mark Brown's theatrical adaptation of Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days."

"The Odd Couple," will be staged Aug. 13. The story pairs Oscar Madison, slob extraordinaire, with the straight-laced Felix Ungar as both men cope with their respective divorces. Hilarity ensues as the new roommates discover their living styles are monumentally incompatible.

"Around the World in 80 Days" is a blazingly fast-paced adventure that will be staged on July 16. In the style of Monty Python and "The 39 Steps," five actors play every character in Phileas Fogg's epic quest to circumnavigate the globe. Filled with romance, danger and humor, this recent adaptation has been produced to rave reviews throughout the country.

Season tickets for the two musicals are now on sale: $85/adults, $75/seniors (65-plus) and military and $50 for children 12 and under.

The staged readings' fundraiser ticket prices are $25 per person regardless of age.

In contrast to North Idaho College's Schuler Performing Arts Center's 1,100 seats, the Kroc Center's theater has a capacity of 400, so prompt ticket purchases are encouraged. Seating will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis with past season ticket holders receiving priority seating. The last date to purchase a season ticket at a reduced rate is Feb. 4.
