ASHLAND, Ore. - Terrance McKinney (141 pounds), V.J. Giulio (197) and Taylor Kornoely (285) won each of their matches by pin for North Idaho College's wrestling team to advance to today's bracket round of the Southwestern Oregon Open.

NIC had all 13 wrestlers move from Saturday's pod matches into the double-elimination bracket.

"I thought the guys wrestled really well," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "You never know how they'll do after the long bus ride and having to make weight and compete. I'm pleased with how they wrestled and we'll find out tomorrow what they're made of."

CASPER, Wyo. - Former Lake City standout Jansen Butler scored a team-high 13 points for the Cardinals, which lost to the Wyoming All-Stars at Casper College.

"We got our butts kicked," NIC coach Chris Carlson said. "They were good and in great shape, and played hard. It was nip and tuck for a while, but they really lit it up in the last three to four minutes."

NIC (3-1) played without starting point guard Georgia Stirton, a Gonzaga signee who injured her left knee in the first minute against Casper on Friday and did not return. Ryleigh Swagerty scored 10 points and Renae Mokrzycki had nine points and seven rebounds for NIC, which travels to Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Wash., on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

"It was good to get two wins here for this group, especially without Georgia out there," Carlson said. "There's lots of things to build on from this weekend going forward.

NIC was originally scheduled to face Scenic West Athletic Conference foe Utah State-Eastern, but the Golden Eagles opted not to play NIC due to a possibility of three meetings already between the two teams this season, including conference and postseason play.

Sarah McNamee had 15 points for the Wyoming All-Stars.
