MISHAP: Four step up to help

On Veterans Day I was pulling a utility trailer fully loaded with wet gravel south on U.S. 95. I had just crossed the Spokane River when the trailer started fish-tailing, and those of you who have pulled trailers that start whipping know that I’m not exaggerating when I say that every hair on my body was at sudden attention wondering what horrid thing was in store next. I soon found out.
The wheel next to the curb flew off and rolled over the bank. A couple of seconds later the tire on the other side blew into shreds and the trailer was riding on its axle, grinding away with sparks flying. I finally got everything stopped at the entrance to the Blackwell Island Boat Ramp.
Four Good Samaritans stopped, three men and a lady with a dump truck. Shovel by back breaking shovel we got that trailer unloaded onto the dump truck.
I am eternally grateful to those four good people who would stop and help a senior citizen in a terrible situation. (I’d probably still be there shoveling.)
Coeur d’Alene is a wonderful place to live with people like that.
