The Hockaday Museum of Art’s permanent collection vault area is receiving a much-needed art rack storage system.

Construction of the art racks requires that all art and artifacts be removed and installed in the museum galleries.

The resulting exhibition, known as “Crown of the Continent Gallery — Part Two,” will provide museum visitors with a rare opportunity to see what the Hockaday has acquired in its 45-year history. On view will be historic items of local and regional interest, including art and artifacts of Glacier National Park, the indigenous tribes of Montana, photographs, sculptures and more.

“Crown of the Continent Gallery — Part Two” will be a changing exhibition as items are rotated in and out during the art rack construction in the permanent collection vault area. Return visitors are likely to see new items during the exhibition’s three-month run.

The storage system is made possible by a grant from the Seattle-based Murdock Foundation.

“Crown of the Continent Gallery — Part Two” begins Nov. 29, during the museum’s Thanksgiving community open house. The exhibition will continue through Feb. 22.

An opening reception celebrating the new exhibit will be held during the downtown Kalispell Art Walk Dec. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The public is invited to enjoy free admission to the Hockaday during the open house and art walk events. Hockaday members will have unlimited free admission to enjoy “Crown of the Continent Gallery — Part Two” during regular museum hours.

The Hockaday Museum of Art is located at 302 Second Ave. E., Kalispell.
