Three synthetic substances were recently designated as Schedule I narcotics by the Drug Enforcement Agency.

The substances - known by their street names as "25i," "Smiles," and "N-Bomb" - are sold as an LSD substitute and usually ingested by placing saturated paper tabs in the user's mouth.

"Fortunately we haven't seen it," Sgt. Christie Wood told The Press Wednesday. "But we know what to look for."

The Idaho Office of Drug Policy issued a statement regarding the three substances, stating they have a "high potential" for abuse and are highly toxic. In accordance with federal law, the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy will also control the substance.

"The board is in support of these changes, and these synthetic drugs will be illegal in Idaho after a 30-day waiting period," Mark Johnston, director of the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy, said in the release. "Available data and information indicate that these three synthetics have a high potential for abuse and no currently accepted medical use in treatment."

Under the Controlled Substance Act, the possession or distribution of Schedule I narcotics can result in severe prison time for a first time, non-violent, offense.
